“People don't believe in me because I'm too young”, “I won't be successful because I'm too poor”, “I'm too old”, “I don't have studies”, “I'm a single mother”… These are some of the most frequent phrases that I have heard in this industry in all its versions!
But in reality, all these points, which the traditional world sees as disadvantages, could turn out to be your greatest strength.
Turn that disadvantage into strength
The first thing you have to understand when you have a "disadvantage" is that the weakness that justifies people not believing in you is only in your mind... You don't know the real reason why the person is not joining your team, but you're still buying that story.
The vast majority of the time, people don't believe in you, because you don't believe in yourself.
If you are not convinced of what you are doing, and you believe that you do not have the capacity to be followed by other people, it will be reflected in your eyes, in your energy, in everything you do and intuitively others will feel that there is little certainty in the ambient. Nobody wants to go into a business where there is little certainty!
It is up to you to work internally on your security so that people want to be part of your business, regardless of your past, regardless of your background, regardless of anything other than that moment where you safely tell people that you want them to be part of your equipment.
Best of all, those "disadvantages" that scare you so much can be the best tool to speak confidently to your prospects, as they are an infallible argument. Imagine that you are in front of a great entrepreneur, successful and full of energy; one of those that just thinking about presenting the business gives you goosebumps. All you would have to do at the end of your presentation is say to her: "If I'm doing it, being [so young / so old / so poor / uneducated / single mom], imagine how successful you could be!"
In other words, use that disadvantage to your advantage! Your prospects will understand that if you are succeeding despite your “disadvantages”, they could be very successful without that disadvantage and clearly we are all interested in a business with such a characteristic.
Now, let's get something straight: every time I've written the word cons I've done it in quotes, because I really don't think they are. In the years I've been in this industry, I've seen extremely successful people who had much greater limitations: people who couldn't read or write, someone who was in jail and nobody trusted them, people with chronic illnesses that prevented them from standing on their feet. chair... And even so they were very successful, because our industry highly values effort in conditions that would traditionally be unfavorable.
The message is precise: “if I am doing it, then imagine what you could do”.
Now tell me: What is your disadvantage? I'm sure your story can inspire us all, so I read you in the comments.
